- The extension is a pavilion-like connector that does not replicate the forms of the existing buildings, but offers a contemporary interpretation of Aalto's architecture, emphasizing the essential symbiotic relationship between the building and nature, as well as the interior space as a metaphor for the landscape. The folded green roof blends the building into the sloping landscape and allows the two-story mass to be integrated into the site in a way that does not appear overly dominant or massive in its surroundings. The aim has also been to connect the museum more closely to the surrounding pathways and to improve the functionality of the area behind the buildings, making the building more accessible from the northwest and the university.
