Our office was privileged to be involved in the planning of the Annefred area of Aviapolis in Vantaa, already in its city planning phase. When completed, the residential area will offer a diverse network of car-free shared courtyards and squares. The aim is to create green residential neighborhoods that support biodiversity in the courtyards, where wild nature and modern courtyards meet. Vegetation reduces the risk of flooding, binds carbon dioxide, cools the heat islands of the built environment and increases the comfort and health effects of urban space. At the same time, design principles in line with sustainable development and adaptation to climate change will be implemented.
